Ana Isabel Dow

Actor. Writer. Human.
Based out of NYC.

Ana Isabel Dow recently made her Off-Broadway debut as the lead in Tanya Saracho's Fade at Primary Stages, where she played Lucía Ballesteros: the code-switching fresa novelist trying to overcome racism and sexism at her Hollywood TV writing job. Her performance received critical acclaim: The Village Voice said she "manages at each moment to take the feeling precisely up to its edge"  while others described her performance as "terrific", "eerily authentic", and "great fun to watch!"

Born and raised in Monterrey, México, Ana Isabel is a first generation immigrant who first came to the United States in pursuit of a college education; she is the first woman in her family to finish college, earning her BFA in Drama and Psychology at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where she focused her studies on the collaborative development of new works and contemporary performance of classical text. Ana's Mexican upbringing and transition to the US has been essential to her artistic development, both in honing her natural comedic rhythm and in informing her perspective as an emerging Latinx artist.

Ana Isabel's career spans both the stage and the screen. Prior to Fade she starred in the world premiere of another Saracho work, Song for the Disappeared, with the Passage Theatre Company. That performance was also lauded by the critics: the New York Times praised her portrayal as “touching”, while others described her as “hilarious” and commended her “ability to create humor in a dark environment." She recently appeared in LMN’s I Love You…But I Lied under the direction of Emmy-nominee Michael Selditch and has also previously performed on The Late Show with David Letterman. She has remained true to her classical training: performing as Hero in Much Ado About Nothing at the Tony-winning Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC (alongside Kathryn Meisle, Derek Smith, and Tony Plana) and as Bianca in Othello with New York’s Kinetic Theatre Ensemble. She has also participated in the development of new plays and musicals at CAP 21, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Playwrights Realm, NYTW, and The Lark.  Ana is a veteran on-camera and voice-over commercial performer, appearing in multiple national and regional ads in both English and Spanish, working with clients such as Macy’s, Palmolive, McDonalds, Liberty Mutual, Subway, and Garnier.

Ana Isabel is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Film at Columbia University.
